The course has been designed to give
participants the basic skills necessary to ensure their own
safety and that of others when moving and handling loads at
work. It has been designed in a modular format to meet the
needs of different staff groups. Modules A and B are
suitable for staff who only handle inanimate objects.
A variety of teaching methods are
used including groupwork, discussion, demonstration and
practise of handling activities. A comprehensive handbook
is provided and a personal moving and handling training
record completed that may be used as evidence of continuous
professional development.
Content
includes:

Module A – Legislation and employers policy, ergonomics and
risk assessment, structure and function of the spine, causes
of injury, principles of safer moving and handling

Module B – Load handling, posture care and fitness
Depending on the training needs analysis the course may be
delivered as a
½
or 1 day programme.
Practical
activities covered can be tailored to particular work
settings e.g. office environments, catering, portering,
stores, housekeepers, domestics.
