This course has been designed for those who wish to develop
their expertise to the level where they can train others to
handle inanimate loads in catering settings. It is
delivered in two modules (the first two days, and the second
one day) which cover the knowledge and skills required to
present a basic load handling course:
Participants will be trained
to deliver a specially designed training package aimed at
staff working in catering services. A comprehensive set of
materials will be provided. These include:

Workbooks
for course participants, covering background knowledge,
exercises and questionnaire.

A CDRom with Powerpoint presentation, tutor notes, overhead
projector slides and tutor answer sheets (a tutors A3
flipchart is also available to purchase separately)
The
training programme and accompanying resources were
originally developed in partnership with Nottinghamshire
County Council and tested and implemented within the
organisation.

Course
includes:

Module 1:
Standards for manual handling training, legal
responsibilities, the ergonomic approach to injury
prevention, causes of injury, effects of different
postures and movements, principles of safe handling,
load handling skills, application of these skills to
handling loads in catering settings.

Module 2:
Delivering the training package ‘Manual Handling in
Catering Services’.
The
trainers’ course can be run on any site where there is
access to catering areas suitable for facilitating the
practical elements of the course.
Courses are delivered with a tutor:delegate ratio of 1:8.
and each course involves individual
assessment that requires preparation between the modules.
No
previous training experience or qualifications are required.
