Duration - 1 day

The course has been designed give participants an opportunity to update and refresh their moving and handling skills. There will be opportunities to discuss and practice handling and moving in specific situations that participants identify. 

A variety of teaching methods will be used including group work, discussion, demonstration and practise of handling activities.  A comprehensive handbook will be provided and a personal moving and handling training record completed that may be used as evidence of continuous professional development. 

Content includes:

• Legislation and the employers policy

• Risk assessment

• Principles for safer moving and handling

• Controversial handling practices

• Handling equipment

• Respecting the individual's wishes wherever possible and the need to balance this with the carer's safety

Practical activities covered can be tailored to particular services ( eg hospitals, schools, social care).
